Attention all gamers, young and old… you’re in danger of missing out if you don’t read this blog post…
What is R-Cade Glasgow?
R-Cade Glasgow is home to a unique combination of retro gaming and a Japanese style cafe. They have hundreds, if not thousands of games covering the past 5 decades. Available on the famous console makes of Nintendo, Sega and PlayStation set in their own specially designed cabinets. It also has an interesting touch of old TV’s which give the real retro feel to the arcade. Should you find yourself hungry while gaming, they have a pretty cool selection of Japanese snacks and drinks to try out in their cafe.
Where is it?
R-Cade can be found at 146 Saltmarket, Glasgow G1 5LB.
How to get there
We made the short walk from Glasgow city centre to R-Cade Glasgow. However, if you have to drive, Glasgow King Street NCP is a short walk away.
Cost and opening hours
For details on opening hours check out the website. I would also recommend you keep an eye on their twitter account, if they have big bookings in for certain times they will post updates, @rcadeglasgow . We had to wait 10 minutes as a large group was in, but that was no issue on our side. There is different combinations of time limits available. We had other plans for the rest of the day, therefore we opted for a 30 minute session at £3 each. However, I don’t think that was enough and we could have easily spent an hour there at £5 each.
What is on offer
R-Cade Glasgow is split into two parts
Japanese Cafe
In the cafe there are numerous board games on offer which are free to use, or if you just want to take in the atmosphere of the gamers you can also sit back and enjoy that as well.
Just purchase a drink or snack from the menu.
Gaming room
This area is in the same room as the cafe, so if you have little ones wanting to play the games they aren’t too far away.
Myself and Megan had an absolute ball playing: Mario kart on the SNES, Duck hunt on the NES (sharp shooting Megan!), Sonic on the Mega Drive and the turtles on the xBox on the big screen.
We also had a go at pong on a very old computer and a game of pac man. There was a list of games on a MAC screen and all you have to do is pick one, and the fella working behind the counter will load it onto the console for you to play.
Would we recommend R-Cade Glasgow?
