Day 1 Travelling across the USA

Surprisingly, not a hint of jetlag this morning which we would normally get when we visit the USA. Not sure if this was down to the afternoon flight keeping us awake later or just luck, but it suits us!

Morning

Being up early on our travels isn’t generally a surprise, but being up early and having no hint of jetlag in the USA was a pleasant surprise.

After eating our FREE breakfast we started to make our way into NYC. I never checked the cost to get from Newark into NYC and got the shock of my life when 2 adult returns were $62 in total. Thankfully Megan was free!  To be fair, it was still cheaper than staying in NYC itself.

Our only plans for NYC is to watch NYC FC – NE Revolution game and get some dollar pizza on the way home.

Afternoon

We have been to the Yankees stadium before, but we took a different route this time and ended up on an express train. Slightly worried about the lack of stops we had to ask a local to make sure all was good, which it was and soon we were getting off at the famous stadium.

Megan was starting to get hungry, don’t know if it was actual hunger or she just spotted the Golden Arches, either way, eating here was going to be a lot cheaper than inside the stadium. (There are plenty of other places to eat near the stadium, we have eaten in Court Delhi before, but running out of time it needed to be quick eats.)

After Megan inhaled her 6 chicken nuggets, we went to where the fans gather under the bridge and took part in their walk to the stadium. The walk to the stadium had the usual smoke bombs and drums, but weirdly enough they stop and move in for any buses which need to pass.

Entering a new stadium is always a part of a game I enjoy. I love hearing the noise of the crowd, the nervous chatter of fans expecting the worst, and the excitement of people’s first games. I also like having a look around the shop, and football is 100% not a working man’s game in the USA, $45 for a club scarf, am no thanks! This is sad as we did plan to collect them on this trip.

I won’t go into the match itself, you can watch that on our youtube channel, but it wasn’t the best game I have ever watched, but history was made during the game (3 penalty’s were awarded, 1st time in MLS history).

Once the game was over we started to head back to the hotel, but we had to make a pit stop for some dollar pizza. Megan loves it and we have to get one on each visit.

After we ate we headed back to our hotel for an earlyish night, an early morning flight to Boston is next for us.

Thank you for taking the time to follow us travelling across the USA.  Check back to see if our flight on Day 2 went to plan, spoiler it didn’t.
