Day 2 Travelling Across the USA.

We were up early today for a flight from Newark to Boston. Thankfully, staying close to the airport made this easy, pity rest of the morning wasn’t easy!

Morning

Up nice and early we grabbed a quick breakfast, and made the short journey to Newark Airport. It has been years since I have been there and from memory, it hasn’t changed one bit.

The airport chaos you see in UK/European airports is alive and well in the USA as well! Thankfully we didn’t have to check any luggage in as those queues were long, but the queue for security was even longer! In the end, we spent 1 hr 10 minutes in this queue, but we did get lucky and were moved into a short queue, the right place at the right time and all that!

I settled down to do some youtube videos. While looking at my laptop I saw it was 12:10 and thought I would grab a pint. (Forgetting the time wasn’t updated). I did get some weird looks, but as the minutes passed, more pints appeared! I have made it as an influencer!

Boarding commenced, everyone seated (a bit of shuffling as we were all split up, even though we booked seats beside each other) and we were on our way to Boston, right? Nope, we were on our way back to the gate as there was a problem with the engine. Remember I don’t like flying and having had an aborted landing only a couple of days ago, I wasn’t ready for this and was thinking of getting off the plane. The pilot kept saying he wouldn’t fly the plane unless it was safe, why would some pilots fly it anyway?! After about 2 hours of moving about the apron we were on the runway ready to go, and this time we did go. A very short 35 minutes later we had landed in Boston, a city which is new to me and I was ready to explore.

Afternoon

The delay meant we were arriving at the hotel just as check in opened, which worked out well in the end. We got to our room, dumped our bags, and out we went into the city.

We were for the baseball game in the evening so at this stage we didn’t have much time to explore as we hoped, but we got enough of a taste for it we will be back at some point.

Evening

We arrived at Fenway to huge crowds everywhere, it was a great atmosphere building. I was led to believe that a Yankees fan wouldn’t be near a Red Sox fan as they hate each other, not sure how true that is, but they were all drinking in the same bars together… Walking around we found a lucky strike which is a big indoor arcade, which was a decent way to spend an hour and they sold beer.

We watched until the queues had died down, then went into the stadium (after we had a hot dog, which was beautiful).

We grabbed a beer and found our seats and sat down. Then I realised we couldn’t see the player batting. Didn’t realise my $100 per ticket seats were giving me the full “Fenway Experience”. I got annoyed and we went on the hunt for somewhere to watch the game, playing a dance with the staff who kept telling us to move on.

We ended up probably standing in the BEST place you could and this made our night that little bit better.

The Red Sox won the game in the end and the atmosphere was decent. We left a bit early and were surprised by the number of people in the shops outside, or in restaurants. What is that all about? Why not watch the game you have paid into?

Night

A great service the hotel offered was a free shuttle. Makes getting from the airport or the local train station so easy.

We got off the train and straight onto the shuttle, perfect! However, let us not make this sound all simple and pretty, as it never is… We arrived at the hotel to be met by a crime scene. We got speaking to one of the staff who was waiting at the lift. There was a disturbance and he was on his way to clean blood in the room and along the corridor. Thankfully we were a few floors up, but the deadlock was put on the door anyway!

Tomorrow we are off to Portland, Maine. This section of the trip wasn’t on the plan until last week. It is going to be a special day.

Thanks for reading about us travelling across the USA.
