Day 13 Travelling Across the USA.

Most people who visit Vegas stay up all night drinking and enjoying themselves, then spend the next day by the pool nursing a hangover regretting the previous night. Traveling with a child to Vegas is a different experience, but still a fantastic experience. Here is what we got up to on Day 2 in Vegas.

Morning

Megan had us awake from 7 am with one thing on her mind, the pool! Sadly, the pool didn’t open until 10 am, so we had some time to kill. We left the room at 8:45 am and went to look for breakfast.

Finding somewhere to eat was problematic this morning, everywhere had queues. I don’t like queueing, anything more than a couple of minutes, and I’m getting grumpy. After walking around for about 15 minutes, I spotted a mini-mart, and we grabbed what we needed for our breakfast.

Megan refused to go back to the room to eat. So, we ate in the lobby area until the pool opened. As you can see from the above photo, Megan takes pool time seriously. Swimsuit on and goggles in her hand 20 minutes before it even opened.

While we waited, the topic of conversation changed to staying an extra night. Juventus are playing at the brand-new stadium behind the Luxor hotel on Friday night. We had enough reward nights on hotels dot com to pay for an extra night, and it was cheap enough to book new flights to LA, $80 for the 3 of us. Decision made; we are staying an extra night in Vegas. Megan was ecstatic.

Finally, it was 10 am, and we were allowed into the pool area. Megan had an absolute ball for the next 2 hours, she made friends with the kids beside us, and the only time we heard from her was when she was looking for some water.

It was approaching midday, and we needed to head shortly to our afternoon surprise for Megan. We started to worry about taking Megan away from the pool and being the worst parents ever. However, the parents beside us took one for the team getting their kids out first and took the title of “WORST PARENTS EVER!”

Afternoon

I knew going to Vegas in July was a silly move. The heat was unbearable this afternoon. We made our way to Treasure Island using public transport, but we still had to walk in the heat, which wasn’t pleasant. It was so hot I was getting snappy and feeling sick.

However, it was all worth it when Marvel Avengers superfan Megan realised she was going to the Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N.

Megan had a brilliant time looking at props and costumes worn in the Avengers movies.

Lots of the exhibits were interactive, meaning Megan could do some actual Avengers training.

Once done, she picked up an Avengers membership card. She was clean delighted with herself. (If you ever do visit, make sure you book in advance. It is a lot cheaper than walk-up prices!)

We headed to the hotel to get a bit of rest before our evening plans. The walk did take a lot longer than expected as we walked through the hotels. Megan was getting a bit grumpy until she spotted a cake vending machine. Wee sugar boost from it meant she made it back to the hotel with no legs or arms, or even a head falling off!

Evening

As we didn’t have an early morning flight to worry about, we decided to head up to Fremont Street. Our first port of call was the container park that Nicola and I visited years ago. On our previous visit, the place was busy and had a great atmosphere, but tonight it was dead with only a few visitors and not many shops open.

We got ourselves a beer, and Megan had a play in the play park. Although, it started to feel like the staff was looking rid of us so they could close up. You couldn’t blame them as it was roasting in the containers. So, we finished up and headed for Freemont Street.

As we arrived on Freemont Street, Megan was amazed by the light show going on above her head and all the sights and sounds. Then she spotted the zip line. If you remember, Megan completed a zipline course in Costa Rica, and now she wanted another go.

It was pricey, but she had to do it. There was no height restriction for the zipline. However, there was a weight restriction – Not Good! Megan had to stand on the scales, she weighed 49lb, and the target weight was 50lb. It was a firm sorry from the lady behind the counter. While it was annoying being so close, we can understand the safety aspect. You can imagine her getting stuck halfway across, although that would have made a great blog post!

Luckily the disappointment didn’t last long. Megan was desperate to get her photo taken with the showgirls who walked up and down Freemont Street, so once she spotted them, she took off with the only $2 she had to ask them if that was enough for a photo. How could they say no?

We enjoyed our walk up and down both sides of Freemont Street. We got to have a beer, people-watch, and enjoy some live music until it was time to head home.

On arrival back at the hotel, we realized we hadn’t eaten, so it was time for a takeaway, which was an experience when it came to finding the delivery driver. Imagine a scene from ‘Where’s Wally.’ A packed lobby with no mobile signal trying to spot the delivery driver! After running back and forth to an area with WiFi, we finally found each other. We ate our meal as if we hadn’t eaten before and went straight to bed after a busy day. (At least tonight we made it to 11 pm!)
