Review of the Boardwalk Inn and Suites, Daytona Beach, FL.

It wasn’t on the agenda to stay here. We had booked a very cheap motel out by the Daytona International Speedway track, but the reviews were horrific. While I sipped on a beer in a bar by Daytona Beach, I decided that we would cancel it and book something better. I was scrolling through booking.com and spotted the Boardwalk Inn and Suites. The hotel was literally steps away; it had a pool, and it was beside the beach. What more could we want? So we booked. This is our review of the Boardwalk Inn and Suites in Daytona Beach, FL.

Where we booked the Boardwalk Inn and Suites.

In the bar next door, while drinking a $5 beer, I liked the look of the area and thought it would be better and safer for my family to stay in.

Where is the Boardwalk Inn and Suites?

Found at 301 S Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32118. The hotel is on the edge of the historic centre and right beside the beach. If coming by bus, Greyhound Station is a 30-minute walk away. I wouldn’t do this as it is over a bridge with a bit of a climb, which is not pleasant when carrying bags. Either get an Uber or a bus!

Boardwalk Inn and Suites – Amenities.

Take note that you will be required to pay a $150 security deposit on arrival, and a resort fee of $16 per night is required. I assume the resort fee is to cover parking and WiFi. Which was a bit of a waste for us to pay for.

Rooms

The hotel is one large block with four floors. About a third of the Boardwalk Inn and Suites will have sea or pool views; I assume they cost more. We ended up with the ground floor over the parking lot.

Review of the Boardwalk Inn and Suites, Daytona Beach, FL. - Room

Our room had two large double beds, a large TV, a decent-sized bathroom, a microwave and fridge (no freezer), and a kettle. I noticed the room next to us was a suite; it was slightly larger and had a sofa.

There was also a bath/shower; the shower was really powerful, which was great after a day of travelling. There was also a tray of nice body wash, conditioner, shampoo, and body lotion. Megan was delighted to see all this and may have taken some with her!

There wasn’t a hint of noise all night, which surprised me as we were on the ground floor, where everyone walked along to their rooms. The only issue I had was the lights outside and the lack of blackout curtains. I kept waking up thinking we had slept in it, as it was that bright.

Pool

The pool area was as clean as it could be considering it was right beside the beach, with sand and rubbish blowing up from it as it was windy. There were just about enough seats to cover the number of people in the hotel; there was plenty of room, so I guess during peak times they add more sunbeds and seats. Megan had a great time in the pool, even though it was pretty cold. It did have a very deep end of 10FT; we had to constantly have our eyes on Megan.

Gym

This was a pleasant surprise: a nice gym in the hotel for me and Megan to do our workout. When I say Megan, well, she has visions of going to the gym with me at 7 a.m., but as usual, I went by myself while she slept and Nicola worked.

WiFi

The WiFi in the building was terrible; this was a common complaint among the guests; it just didn’t work. Nicola needed to work, and the staff did her a good turn and gave her the password for the reception WiFi, or she wouldn’t have been able to work.

Food/Drink

There was no restaurant on site, which was not really needed as there were loads of places to eat nearby. They did have a small shop in reception where they sold pop tarts and cereal pots; both were about $1, which was handy for feeding Megan first thing in the morning. There is a 7Eleven nearby for drinks and snacks.

Beside the pool, there was a bar with live music. It was out of our price range, sadly, even with the 50% off a second drink voucher the hotel gave us, but it was busy enough with people getting drinks.

Laundry

We didn’t need to use this, but there was a washer and dryer on the ground floor. It was priced at $2 for a wash and $2 for a dry. I have no idea how good it was, but it was being used by other guests throughout the day.

Would we recommend the Boardwalk Inn and Suites?

Yes, I really enjoyed our stay here, and when I left, I was disappointed, as I would have liked to have spent another night. The hotel is in a great location, very family-friendly, and the staff are great as well. The only downside for me was having to pay a resort fee, but if driving, I think that would be worth it.
