OurBus from Boston to NYC.

After 2 weeks of being lifted and laid around Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, it was time to get back on a bus and head from Boston to NYC. This is our experience using OurBus from Boston to NYC.

Booking tickets for OurBus from Boston to NYC?

This was really simple, apart from the fact that we only had cash and had to borrow a card to book online. We booked our bus as usual via busbud.com; if you haven’t used it, we love it. It is really simple to use; all you have to do is input your start and end locations, and it will display all the buses on that route, which you can sort by time or price.

We picked OurBus as it was $50 cheaper than Flixbus, which was the next closest. After double-checking that none of the other buses were cheaper on different sites, we clicked book and had our tickets almost instantly. All really simple and quick.

Pick up location

Most buses leaving Boston leave from the South Bus Station, but OurBus leaves from Dalton Street (check if you decide to book as they could move). Dalton Street is in a handy location as it is surrounded by hotels, and Fenway is right next to it, so if you are going to a game and heading back to NYC, this could be a good option.

The pick-up location was just opposite the Hilton Hotel outside of the Sheridan Hotel. The give-away was the long queue of people waiting, or we wouldn’t have known.

Our bus arrived a few minutes before 10 a.m., our driver put our bags under the bus, checked us off his list, and on we got, and before we knew it, we were on our way to NYC a few minutes after 10 a.m..

The Journey

We boarded the bus and took our unreserved seats. The bus was absolutely spotless, and there was plenty of leg room. Our expected journey time was 4 hours, 45 minutes, taking us from Boston to NYC via Hartford, CT.

However, due to constant traffic, we arrived in NYC over 2 hours late. While sitting in slow traffic, we were able to see more places as we crawled along.

It was nice seeing Hartford again; not much has changed apart from a baseball stadium since I was there about 15 years ago!

We only had one 10-minute rest stop; the stop was at a service, and everyone ran in to grab food.

There was a toilet on the bus, but my advice would be to not sit in the seats directly in front of the toilets; when you recline your seats, they block the toilet door from opening! The fella sitting there was constantly being woken up so people could go into the toilet. Plus, the toilet really smelled of urine, which quickly spread through the bus.

Arriving into NYC

They saved the worst traffic for last! We literally crawled from Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens to our drop-off location at 39th Street on 1st Avenue.

I was never so glad to get off a bus and give my legs a stretch as we headed towards Grand Central a lot later than expected, so much so that Nicola missed a work appointment she had.

Would we recommend using OurBus from Boston to NYC?

As a company, I would have zero issues with recommending using OurBus. They were cheap, the bus was spotless, and the driver was great. However, would I recommend them for a journey between Boston and New York? Probably not; the journey was meant to be 4 hours, 45 minutes, but it ended up being close to 7. There is nothing the company can do about that, but this route seems to be heavy with traffic, and I would recommend flying or taking a train for this route.

Thanks for taking the time to read about our experience using OurBus from Boston to NYC. I hope it was of use.

The Lewis family.
