While waiting for our ride share from Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport to our Airbnb in the TITAN area of the city in the early hours of a cold winter morning, I noticed a train station just opposite the arrival hall. During my last visit to Bucharest, the station wasn’t there, and I decided that when we returned to the airport a week later, we would be using the train to get there. This is our review of using the Train from Bucharest Nord to Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport.
Buying Tickets.
We arrived at Bucharest Nord Station just in time to get the 20-minute train to the airport. We did have a couple of problems. First, the ticket machines didn’t seem to cover the route. We ran to the ticket office and waited in a queue, to be told to pay on the train. I wish we had researched how to pay for the train at the station. Those 5 minutes at the machines and the desk meant we had to dash to the platform to ensure we didn’t have to hang around for another 40 minutes on the next one.
No sooner had we boarded, we were asked to pay for our tickets. It was a bit strange at this point. Megan had to buy her ticket from the conductor as she was deemed a child at the age of 10, and myself and Nicola had to use one of the tap machines on the train.
This caused a bit of faffing, as we needed to move money around as we each needed a card, but it all worked out in the end. Ticket cost was 5.5 RON each for myself and Nicola, 2.75 RON for Megan. Price correct as of July 2024.
If you are sure on specific times you can book online, we were not 100% we would make the specific train so decided against this option. Probably just as easy to buy on the train.
The Journey.
The 20-minute train between Bucharest Nord and Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport took us in the north direction. We went through the city, into the suburbs, and then into Ilfov County, where the airport is situated.
Sadly, as it was in the middle of the night I couldn’t get any photos. However, I don’t think we missed out on much.
The train was empty, only a few hardy souls like us were heading to either sleep in the airport or catch a late flight.
There was not a hint of drama on the route, and before we knew it, we were at the airport station.
Getting from the station to the airport.
This was really simple! We left the brand new spotless station, walked under a covered path, crossed a road and we were in arrivals at the airport. It was further short walk to the departures area, from train to check in desk was no more than a 5-10 minute walk.
Keep an eye out for one of Megan’s sticker as you walk through the covered path. If you see it let us know!
Would we recommend using the Train from Bucharest Nord to Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport?
Yes. It was quick, cheap, safe and reliable. Only problem is, if you are on a early morning flight the subway within Bucharest is shut down during the night. That means if you aren’t staying near Bucharest Nord you are going to need to get there. With this in mind depending on where you are staying it might be just as easy/cost effective to get a ride share straight to the airport.

This is so useful and will save a lot of faffing!
Thank you. Yeah, it was really simple. No need to try and get an uber, no battling through Bucharest traffic, literally on the train and go.
Hi Lewis Family,
Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like the train from Bucharest Nord to Henri Coandă International Airport is a solid option, even with a few ticket hiccups. The convenience and cost seem to outweigh the minor issues, especially with the straightforward walk to the airport. Great tip about the subway—definitely something to keep in mind for early flights. Safe travels and keep the blog updates coming!
Thank you for the comment. Yeah, the faff with the tickets was on us, apart from that I cant say a bad word about the service. So, easy to use, safe and comfortable.
Thanks again.
