Premier Inn, Bolton (Stadium Hotel)

Usually, when we go to watch football matches, we end up staying quite far from the stadium because of the cost. However, for our trip to watch Bolton Wanderers play, we decided to do things differently and stay closer to the ground. The stadium hotel was out of our price range, and they didn’t have any family rooms available, so we chose the next closest option: Premier Inn, Bolton (Stadium Hotel). This is how we got on!

Location

The Premier Inn Bolton (Stadium Hotel) is as described located just across the road from the Bolton Wanderers football stadium.

Getting there

This all really depends on your starting point –

By Car:

  1. From the M61:

    • If you’re travelling on the M61, take Junction 6 (signposted for Bolton) and follow the A6027 towards the stadium. The stadium is just off the main road, and there is parking available on-site.
  2. From Bolton Town Centre:

    • Head out on the A676, following signs for the stadium. The A6027 road will also lead you directly towards the stadium.

By Train:

Bolton Train Station:

    • Bolton train station is about 2 miles (around 10 minutes) from the stadium. From there, you can either walk, take a bus, use a taxi, or take an 8 minute train to Howich Parkway, which is a two minute walk to the hotel and stadium.

By Bus:

  • There are regular buses from Bolton town centre that go to or near the stadium. You can check with the local transport company (like First Bus or Go North West) for specific routes and schedules.

Check In

We arrived early for the 12:30 pm kick-off, knowing we’d have no chance of checking in at that time. The woman at the front desk kindly took our bags and told us to return after the game to check in. When we got back at 2:25 pm, a different receptionist asked if we’d like to check in early for £15. I asked what time check-in was, and she said 3 pm. I think the penny dropped at that and she quickly said the system wouldn’t let her check us in for free until 2:45 pm, so we should come back then. I’m not entirely sure about that, since we’ve definitely checked in between 2-3 pm before at other Premier Inn hotels, anyway, we returned at 2:45 pm, checked in, and headed to our room.

The Room

We knew exactly what to expect before even opening the door, and sure enough, the room had a double bed, bathroom, TV, and a view of the building across the road. The room was maybe just on the smaller side compared to other Premier Inns, but big enough for us.

We could’ve paid extra for a view of the stadium, but honestly, I don’t think it would’ve been worth the extra cost.

The room was spotless, and we didn’t hear a sound from anyone else the entire time. The only problem was the basic WiFi was not great, it was probably the worst we have had.

Food and drink

The hotel has a small restaurant where breakfast is served, but we didn’t have it since we arrived too late and were leaving too early. It would be your standard Premier Inn Breakfast at the usual price.

They didn’t offer any other hot food, but there was a busy Harvester across the road, along with other fast food options on the other side of the stadium.

Getting to the Stadium

The stadium can be seen from the front door of the hotel, it literally took us a few minutes to walk to the stadium. The road can be busy on match day as there is also a huge retail park beside it, so be very careful crossing the road and use the lights.

Thoughts on staying at Premier Inn, Bolton (Stadium Hotel)

Would we stay at the Premier Inn, Bolton (Stadium Hotel) again? Absolutely. The hotel was conveniently located near public transport and within walking distance of the football stadium. It had all the amenities we needed and met our expectations for a Premier Inn. The only downside was the receptionist asking for an extra £15 to check us in 35 minutes early, which was a bit frustrating, but it didn’t completely ruin our experience. If you’re attending a game at Bolton Wanderers stadium, I would definitely recommend staying at the Premier Inn, Bolton (Stadium Hotel).
