20/10/2019 – We have been made aware that Harness Adventure Bangor has stopped trading and no longer is open to the public. – Michael
We are massive fans of Ninja Warrior, and Megan has always reckoned she could take on the course no bother. So, on one not so summers day in August we decided to put her skills and bravery to test and booked a session at Harness Adventure in Bangor.
What is it?
At the time of writing, Harness Adventure is the only dedicated high rope indoor centre in Northern Ireland, which is great because it’s always open no matter what the weather. It opened it’s doors in September 2018 and has been growing in popularity since. It is a great way to instil confidence in children from an early age, and get them up and exercising without them even realising!
Where is it?
Harness Adventure is located at 8 A-C Enterprise Road Bangor. Once on Enterprise Road follow the road as far as you can go, there are signs to guide you.
How To Get There
As we don’t drive we took the short journey by taxi which worked out handier and cheaper than using public transport.
If you do decide to use public transport any of the buses going towards Newtownards or Bangor direction will stop near Enterprise Road, just ask the driver to stop as close as possible.
On site parking is available for those who drive.
Cost and Opening Hours
Opening hours and cost can be found on the Harness Adventure Website.
We were able to book online, but currently there is no option to pay online. Cash or card is however accepted at the centre.
What is on offer
A session on the high ropes lasts 45 mins.
After a quick safety brief Megan was fitted with a full body harness before being taken up onto the platform, here she was given free reign to take on the high rope obstacle course.
Megan had her choice of 18 obstacles to cross, including the Burma bridge, swinging logs and wobble boards. I think there was only two she didn’t cross and that was the chain rope and the hanging cargo net, which probably would have been a bit much for a 6 year old.
They also have blindfolds if you find some of the obstacles a bit easy.
There is at least one fully qualified member of staff up on the ropes at all times. Kirsten, who was working on the day of our visit was brilliant. She was there when needed to help Megan navigate the course and to provide some encouragement on the tougher obstacles.
For the adults who aren’t a fan of heights or adventure there is a small cafe selling tea, coffee and snacks with a seating area. You’re also able to wander around below the course, if you want to shout up extra encouragement.
Harness adventure also caters to groups and parties.
Would we recommend Harness Adventure?
100%, we love to support local businesses. Megan had an absolute ball and has asked could we take her back!
Top Tips.
- I would advise to book over the phone, you can then check to see what time slot is the least busy.
- While children 6 and over do not need to be accompanied by an adult, I would recommend an adult going up for support and also to help with the rope and harness system. Megan did find it a little tricky at first.
- Release your inner ninja warrior and get yourself over to Harness Adventure.
