Through this blog post, we are going to explain the different public transport options on offer to get from Newcastle Airport to the City Centre.
Newcastle Airport to the City Centre
Newcastle Airport is roughly 7 miles from Newcastle City Centre. There are 4 public transport options on offer.
Metro Service.
A tunnel from arrivals connects the airport to the metro station. Ticket machines are found at the end of the tunnel with a guidance board explaining how to make your purchase.
The travel time by Metro from Newcastle Airport to the City Centre is around 25 minutes. The Metro departs every 12 mins from early morning until midnight.
The cost is £3.70 one way for adults, or you can get a day ticket for £5.40. Children under 16 travel for free using a POP card, but you need a local address to order one, although the cost is £1.60 for a day ticket. The main City Centre stops are Haymarket, Monument and Central Station. The metro extends to Sunderland and takes around 55 minutes to reach there.
We took this option as we found it great value, especially as we planned to visit both Newcastle and Sunderland during the same day.
Taxi.
Travel time by Taxi from Newcastle Airport to City Centre is around 15 mins. Arrow Taxis are the taxi company at the airport; just follow the signs to their collection point.
The cost for a standard car is roughly £35 into the City Centre; larger cars are more expensive. Price is not fixed and is dependent on traffic etc.
Bus.
Travel time by bus is around 30 minutes. The main route’s last station is Eldon Square. Check, Nexus bus website for times and prices
